Illustration Class Room

hosted by Tang Ho (Co-hosted by Athena, with the assistance of lovable little Lisa)

This class room is mainly for people who already have basic skills of drawing. I will not teach any technique. I believe every one have their own style. I will concentrate on composition, balance, emphasis and grammar of a drawing, In short, how well the pictures are telling a story.

Lesson Eight: Balance

Ladies and gentleman, I am Athena, and I shall present you the illustration class' eighth installment shortly! Before I do so, I have a nail to pick with this young Tang. This boy is so slothful, he did not even draw a host for this class -- he just grabbed an old drawing of me from his sketch book. He should be ashamed of himself! I am not even a main character in his book! And what happens when people take short cuts? They end up working more! My hands were not drawn properly in the original sketch. Therefore, Tang tried to use the mouse to fix them. He wasted 20 minutes -- in which time he could have spent drawing a better image! Notice my shoulders? They are not the same length. You should send an E-mail to Tang and blast him! Tang, I have one thing to say to you: "You got what you deserved."

Alright, enough of that! I am a busy woman. So let us start this lesson right away. This time we will talk about "Balance." Ironic, isn't it?

The following are some common mistakes of unbalance in illustrations that needs mentioning.

 (a) Broken

 (b) Dropping out

(c) One sided

(d) Chaos
